After multiple episodes of tension, plots and sabotage, Celebrity Traitors has reached a nail-biting finale
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article reveals details from Celebrity Traitors finale
Throughout the season, audiences saw murders, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the final winner of the first celebrity edition was revealed.
From nineteen participants, just a handful were left standing: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the winnings.
Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a surprising result that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he exclaimed, revealing to the other players that he was actually a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Social media immediately exploded with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," wrote one user.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote another, while someone else described it as "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, as noted by entertainment reporters.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him keeping composure through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained why no one had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have appeared to the morning meal in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate someone who is so loveable?" asked another celebrity.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the show.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would be successful a second time!"
The final episode was extended to over an hour on the network. It had a different start than usual, as all the celebs were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.
There was particularly inspiring, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as the episode revisited some moments from every remaining player's time in the castle.
As ever, Alan Carr provided some of the most memorable lines.
"To be honest, I started this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown close allies to save myself, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm more deceptive and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player commented that being in the final was "significantly more pressure than competing with a national team", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have lasted this long.
Early on of the finale, various contestants appeared to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the castle, replacing the previously eliminated style leader.
Carr emerged at breakfast looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge involved ripping up portraits of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who managed to get hit in the head multiple times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Before long, it was time for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers did a pinky promise beforehand, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," stated one, while the other just giggled.
However, one did stick to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay unnoticed for most of the game, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The last deceiver looked like to be experiencing a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm unpredictable, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against that player to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," commented a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," posted another user.
But there was no time to dwell on this departure. Soon, they were at the final stage - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.
A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," remarked the eliminated player. Later, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Finally, just three players were still competing: the last participants.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. So did another, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - which meant that the traitor emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players comforted the winner was "compelling television". "I anticipate it could be a contender for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they commented.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," he said.
He also made light of that infamous murder - his best friend during the initial stages - by leaning toward the presenter in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The recent episodes of celebrity gossiping, plotting and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did occur. It will be remembered fondly.
