Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Major Air Traffic Control Outage
Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial ATC system failure grounded all flights.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.
A number of travelers were left waiting in jets at the stand during the disruption.
Operations Restart with Continued Disruption
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
However, considerable delays are anticipated to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.
A spokesperson had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be disrupted.
"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the current status on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.
Source of the Issue
The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.
Passengers are still being urged to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as backlogs are cleared.
