New England Match Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Against New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five TDs in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Tom Brady era as they overcame AFC East opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the Patriots notched an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye threw for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph increases the New England's advantage at the top of the AFC East as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Fields running in a short rushing score to finish the Jets' initial series
But the Patriots fought back in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two short rushing scores before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone midway through the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"It was a big time for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," Maye said of Henderson. "He desires to be great."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the win
