Ideally, they'd want an contest for the urn in Australia where they remain in contention to secure the famous trophy after the first three Tests.

That will not be happening this time, though, after the hosts' dominant triumph in Adelaide gave Australia 3-0 up for the fourth successive Ashes series on home turf.

The Barmy Army, England's supporters' group, have 3,000 fans traveling for the final two Tests in Sydney and Melbourne.

In addition, there are travel parties who will celebrate the holidays down under, as well as relatives and companions heading for a dream holiday.

The Disappointed Travelers

A group of four supporters are a prime example.

The four siblings had their itineraries and entry credentials arranged for the Boxing Day and New Year Tests "well ahead of time", hoping to witness a historic English victory.

Sadly, they've observed Australia defeat England convincingly in just a short period from their residence in their hometown.

"Everyone at work has been giving me grief regarding the concluded contest for the last two weeks," stated Sam Ryding.

"Our expectation had been that we would have a meaningful contest upon our arrival."

Diminishing Hope

Hope was abundant about England's chances of breaking a 15-year drought for a triumph on Australian soil before it began.

However, the situation is now staring down the barrel of prolonging a streak without victory in the country to 19 games when the next match starts in Melbourne this week.

The tourists - and their fans - will be hoping to sidestep a dreaded 5-0 scoreline.

Alex said the "excitement and fun" of head coach the aggressive 'Bazball' approach in recent years had "reinvigorated" the five-day game for followers of the team.

However, the group said they had low expectations for the remaining matches - and all they are requesting from the players is "some resilience".

"Every pundit alludes to it, but it all hinges on mental resilience. 'This style has been elevated to a term now that is just, like, impractical batting," stated Rory Ryding.

"In a five-day Test match, you should dig in. Chasing balls 'sixth stump' areas has never featured in the textbooks, and that is mainly the fault the batting lineup."

Future Prospects

Prompted about he believed England will triumph in a Test in this Ashes series, Sam said: "It looks like the Australians are superior right now."

"It will require multiple performers that stands up for England and makes a big impact."

Even with the series lost, the group remains excited about the trip.

"It will be a wonderful trip regardless," added another sibling. "We must adopt that mindset."

"Of course, it's a let-down we aren't fighting for more, but we have made a substantial financial commitment as it is."

"We'll enjoy having Christmas and New Year overseas. It is also our first experience traveling over Christmas."

A teacher, Katie is determined to make the most of the lengthy journey as part of her Christmas holidays.

"As a backup plan, there's always golf to fall back on," Katie concluded.
