Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for the addition additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
